The Saskatoon Police Service has arrested a 40 year old man in connection to a Tuesday evening armed robbery.

The call came in around 7:15 p.m. when the caller says a man approached him in the 600 block of 22nd Street West, pulled a rifle out of his backpack and then threatened the victim demanding his wallet and phone.

With assistance from the Canine Unit, officers tracked a suspect to a garage in the 200 block of Avenue L North.

A suspect was taken into custody and officers also managed to track the stolen cell phone so a backpack which allegedly contained a rifle, a loaded rifle magazine, a cell phone, two knives and additional ammunition were retrieved.

Among other charges the 40-year-old man is facing charges of Armed Robbery, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Break and Enter, and Obstruction.
