The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to a controlled burn in Corman Park that became an out of control grass fire on Monday.

The call came in at 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon that there was a large area of grass on fire 16 kilometres south of Saskatoon on Highway 219 at the entrance to Beaver Creek. A fire engine, a brush truck and a tanker were dispatched but once crews arrived they requested another brush truck and tanker unit to help fight a blaze that was a “football field” in size and threatening structures on the property.

Crews extinguished and pushed the fire away from the buildings and brought the grass fire under control at 1:30 p.m. A brush truck stayed on the scene during the afternoon to put out hot spots.

The Saskatoon Fire Department asks that anyone planning a controlled burn contact their dispatch centre (306-975-3030) to let them know in advance.
