A busy week battling fires continues for the Saskatoon Fire Department with two more house fires Wednesday night. The Avenue E South fire was accidental due to improper disposal of smoldering incense in a waste basket and damage is estimated at $5,000. The fire on Avenue Q South is suspected arson with damage estimated at $275,000 and Saskatoon Police are now investigating.
Saskatoon family escapes house fire
Crews were called out at 9:14 p.m. to the 400 block of Avenue E South where they found a small fire on the third floor of the home and managed to put it out using a pump tank. Two people had evacuated prior to the fire department arriving. No on other fires were located, the home was ventilated.
Just over an hour later at 10:24 p.m. fire fighters were called to the 300 block of Avenue Q South and when crews arrived saw flames coming from a window of the fourplex building which was fully involved in fire.
Fire crews had to dismantle a boarded up window to get inside to fight the fire as well as a boarded up door. Crews search all four suites for occupants and the fire was brought under control at 11:09 p.m.
There were no injuries in either fire to civilians or firefighters in either fire.
