The parents of a missing five-year-old boy from Red Earth Cree Nation are “totally devastated” but are grateful for the those taking part in the search efforts to locate the boy. That’s according to Chief Marcel Head of the nearby Shoal Lake.
Five-year-old Frank Young has been missing since Tuesday. Over the course of the last few days, aerial searches and underwater searches have taken place.
At least a dozen search teams from various organizations and municipalities are helping in the search efforts. Search crews from Lloydminster and Manitoba are also helping in the efforts.
Police are using high resolution cameras as part of their aerial searches. Sergeant Richard Tonge with the Carrot River RCMP says they have been cluing into different items based off the description that Frank was wearing a blue windbreaker jacket when he went missing.
“These cameras are very high resolution to the point where the flight crew was leading ground searches to blue objects that turned out to be a blue Pepsi can, a blue label on a water bottle. So that’s just an indication of scrutiny we’re putting into the search.”
Police don’t believe Frank has been abducted. The Red Earth community does have it’s own checkpoint set up to monitor who enters and leaves the First Nation, although no additional checkpoints have been set up by police.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Frank is asked to call 911 or the Carrot River RCMP.
