The Melville RCMP are reminding the public to be vigilant when receiving unsolicited phone calls, text messages or emails. This comes after the detachment investigated a report of fraud this spring where an individual had been contacted by phone, claiming they had been randomly selected and won a grand prize of a vehicle along with a large sum of money.
A couple of tips from the RCMP include asking yourself “Did I enter a contest?” If the answer is no, then the chances are you weren’t a randomly selected winner and another tip is to never give out your personal information including your address, social insurance number and banking information.
From January 2021 to the end of December 2021, Melville RCMP received 59 reports of fraud.
