The N-D-P is calling on the Government of Saskatchewan to add a one percent provincial resource surcharge.
With the cost of living getting higher and the resource sector seeing a boom, N-D-P Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon (pictured) wants the province to give Saskatchewan families a break. Wotherspoon says that the surcharge will be added when W-T-I oil prices exceed $90, U-S, per barrel or when potash prices exceed $700, Canadian, per 20-thousand tonnes. Wotherspoon added that with this surcharge, the government could scrap the P-S-T increase in the budget, and that $250 million would be added to the provincial coffers this fiscal year.
