Silver Spoon Dinner is a gala evening sponsored by Saskatoon CHW (Hadassah-Wizo) and Congregation Agudas Israel raising money for Saskatoon Interval House and Ronald McDonald House. Serena Ryder was this year’s headliner, a Canadian woman who is a multi-platinum Juno Award-Winning Singer/ Songwriter, Artist and Mental Health Advocate.
The Silver Spoon Sterling Award was presented to Jan Gitlin, a long time volunteer for the fundraiser who is described as having made long-standing contributions to education, human rights, the Jewish community as well as the city of Saskatoon and the province. She has been a Commissioner for the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission since 2011, sits as a Director of the Concentus Education Foundation and co-partnered the “Think Good, Do Good” program – all of it creating invaluable tools to combat racism and foster healthy citizenship. She works tirelessly organizing classroom education, multi-faith opportunities and large events for International Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day. Jan Gitlin is the Silver Spoon Dinner’s longest volunteer having been involved since the very first dinner 32 years ago.
The Silver Spoon Sterling Award recognizes a woman from Saskatoon and area who by her ongoing voluntary contribution and service, has enhanced the quality of life in the community.
