It’s emergency preparedness week and Saskatoon residents can expect a notifynow test alert this afternoon (Tues). The City of Saskatoon’s public safety alert program is used to notify the public of public safety situations. The system will be tested at 1 o’clock.
Director of Emergency Management, Pamela Goulden-McLeod, says, “Generally, notifynow alerts are only used when there is an impending, escalating or occurring emergency situation and immediate action is needed.” When you sign up, subscribers have the option of receiving messages by text, landline or cell phone or email.
Goulden-McLeod says you can choose one or all methods.
The national emergency alerting system, Alert Ready, will be doing a Canada-wide test on Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. The message will be sent by TV, radio and compatible wireless devices.
