While six of the nine C-F-L teams combined to select nine punters and two place kickers in Tuesday’s Global Draft, the Saskatchewan Roughriders went on the defensive.
The Green and White chose linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath with the fifth overall choice from Sweden in the first round, linebacker Lukas Ruoss from Switzerland in the second round and defensive back Maceo Beard-Aigret from France in the third round. Genmark-Heath spent last season at U-C-L-A and three years before that at Notre Dame. He will attend the Kansas City Chiefs’ upcoming rookie mini-camp. Ruoss played two years of collegiate ball at Bemidji State, then 2021 with the Reign Fire in the European League. Beard-Aigret suited up in 2021 in the German Football League. ROUGHRIDER SELECT THREE IN THE 2022 GLOBAL DRAFT
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have selected three prospects in the 2022 CFL Global Draft:
- Jordan Genmark Heath (LB – Sweden) Heath – first round, fifth overall
- Lukas Ruoss (LB – Switzerland) – Second round, 14th overall
- Maceo Beard-Aigret (DB – France) – Third round, 23rd overall
Genmark Heath (6’1-225) is invited to attend rookie mini-camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent last season at the UCLA, starting all 12 games at inside linebacker. He recorded 55 tackles, three-and-a-half sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception for the Bruins. Previously, the Swedish native spent three collegiate seasons at Notre Dame, appearing in 39 games and racking up 42 tackles. He began his football career with the Arlanda Jets, an American football league in Sweden.
Ruoss (6’2-230) signed with the Reign Fire of the European Football League after attending the NFL International Combine in London in 2021. He spent two collegiate seasons (2018-19) at Bemidji State, playing in 13 games. The Swiss native earned 64 total tackles including seven-and-a-half tackles for loss, one-and-a-half sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery and two pass break-ups. Prior to becoming a Beaver, Ruoss attended West Hills College (2016) and American River College (2017). Ruoss has been a member of the Swiss National Team since 2012.
Beard-Aigret (6’2-206) played for the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League, where he served as captain. In the 2021 season, he saw action in eight games and earned 14 tackles, two interceptions, six pass break-ups and eight passes defended. The French native was a recent invitee to the NFL International Pathways Combine. The 21-year-old was also invited to the CFL Global Combine, recording 18 reps on the bench press, a 4.68 40-yard dash, 31.5-inch vertical jump, 7.14 seconds in the 3-cone drill and 4.36 seconds in the shuttle. Beard-Aigret played on the Senior France National Team from 2019-21, and the U19 France National Team from 2017-19, where he won the U19 National Championship and was named the game MVP.
