After an extensive investigation with collaboration among multiple units and RCMP detachments in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, a wanted 31 year old man was found and arrested without incident at a business in Winnipeg Friday morning.
There were warrants for Matthew Barker’s arrest in multiple Detachment areas, which in Saskatchewan included Nipawin, Tisdale, Hudson Bay and Swan River.
Charges from Nipawin RCMP include dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and trafficking stolen property.
Police say on April 25th in the Balsam area, officers tried to stop the driver of a truck, but he fled, and the next day the truck, which had been reported stolen, was found abandoned in the RM of Bjorkdale.
RCMP reported recently that Barker was actively evading them and was alerting the public that he was armed and considered dangerous.
Barker is from Swan River, Manitoba, but frequently visits Nipawin, Tisdale and the Hudson Bay areas.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Enforcement Response Team-WEST was assisted in this overall investigation by Tisdale, Nipawin, Hudson Bay and Rose Valley RCMP Detachments, Manitoba RCMP Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and Emergency Response Team and Saskatchewan conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch.
