A rain fall warning is in effect for parts of south central and southeast Saskatchewan where rain and gusty winds have already descended. The heaviest rain will fall in a line from Humboldt through Regina south to the U.S. border and east to the Manitoba border. Environment Canada says a low pressure system moving northwards out of North Dakota is spreading rain across southeastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. Widespread amounts of 30 to 60 mm are forecast.
The heaviest will begin tapering off from south to north later today, but showery weather will last into the first half of the weekend.
In addition to the heavy rain, strong winds gusting as high as 80 km/h will be possible today and localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
The rainfall warning is in effect for these regions: Regina, Moose Jaw, Assinbioia, Gravelbourg, Pense, Central Butte, Craik, Coronach, Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Lanigan, Foam Lake, Estevan, Weyburn, Radville, Milestone, Fort Qu’appelle, Indian Head, Lumsden, Pilot Butte, Kamsack, Canora, Preeceville, Moosomin, Grenfell, Kipling, Wawota, Yorkton, Melville Esterhazy.
There is a special weather statement for areas around Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain as well. Environment Canada says rain will spread northwards out of the southern Prairies today, bringing a soaking rainfall to portions of the central Prairies. Rainfall will be heavy at times, with widespread accumulations of 25 to 45 mm by Saturday morning. The rain will taper off on Saturday morning with a few showers lingering through the remainder of the day.
