The Vatican has announced this mornng that Pope Francis will visit Canada, July 24-30. However, Saskatchewan is not on the list of places he will visit.
The Pontif will make stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit on what the Vatican describes as a pilgrimage of healing, reconciliation and hope.
Last month the Pope apologized for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in residential schools in Canada.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations has been calling for the Pope visit Saskatchewan saying this province has one of the highest numbers of Indian Residential Schools in the country, with 22, and at least half were run by the Catholic Church.
