It wasn’t an item that required approval City Council approval, but the new ward boundaries were presented to Monday’s meeting. There are 4 wards that are out of sync with the population variances allowed. Taking into consideration the City’s population, the permissible range for each ward is between 24,372 and 29,787.
City Clerk, Joanne Sproule, spoke on behalf of the Municipal Wards Commission, saying wards 5 and 8 were too small and 7 and 10 too large. There were public engagement sessions followed by 3 options given and more public engagement, and the boundaries that will be effective November 9th of next year are the result of that. Silverspring-University Heights development area and USask lands north management area from ward 10 to 5, Wildwood moves from ward 9 to ward 8, Eastview moves from 7 to 9, and Brevoort Park moves from ward 8 to ward 6.
