A public inquest into the death of Lucien Silverquill gets underway today (mon) in Yorkton.
On August 27, 2019, the RCMP were called to a home on the Fishing Lake First nation regarding a man with a knife causing a disturbance. Shortly after police arrived, 37-year-old Silverquill was shot in an altercation with officers. EMS crews were called to the scene and officers on hand applied first aid. Silverquill was taken to Wadena Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death.
The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigations of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The Coroner’s jury may also make recommendations to prevent similar deaths for happening in the future.
The inquest runs until May 20th at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton.
