Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan who are monitoring the COVID-19 viral RNA load in wastewater say they had anticipated a second surge in the 6th (Omicron wave), but the numbers indicate we finally seem to have passed the peak of the 6th wave.
For Saskatoon the viral RNA load decreased by 85.3 per cent in the reporting period up to May 11th as compared to the week before. One hundred per cent of the viral RNA load in Saskatoon was the Omicron BA-2 variant of the virus.
For Prince Albert the viral RNA load has decreased by 65.7 per cent in the reporting period up to May 9th compared to the weekly average of the week prior and in North Battleford the most dramatic decrease at 90 per cent in the reporting period up to May 8th as compared to the week before.
Again for both those communities as well, one hundred per cent of the viral RNA load was the Omicron BA-2 variant.
