The provincial government has introduced amendments that would open the door for municipalities to allow alcohol consumption in public outdoor spaces.
“Through these amendments, municipalities have the option to allow the consumption of alcohol in their parks, ensuring that residents are able to enjoy their parks in a safe responsible way,” said Jim Reiter, minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA)
The amendments do not affect private events like weddings, which will still require an SLGA permit.
The government does not require NDP support to pass the amendments, but will need that support if they are to be passed prior to the end of legislative session this week.
Reiter says rules around drinking in provincial parks would remain status quo.
