The mayor of Saskatoon says he is hearing about issues ranging from crime reduction to the use of autonomous vehicles at an international conference in Washington D-C. Charlie Clark says the gathering of international mayors’, innovators as well as social and industry experts have also covered areas such as safely managing data, ride-sharing and electric scooters for transportation. The conference called City Lab has included a session from Flint Michigan on working with residents to deal with abandoned and boarded up properties. Clark says gun violence is a major issue in American municipalities but they share the same concerns about crime and preventing young people from the circle of incarceration that sees them constantly going in and out of the corrections system. Clark says the conference has offered a practical and valuable exchange of ideas including how to take advantage of economic growth and the creation of jobs in the expanding tech industry.
