Canada’s Prime Minister has announced new legislation to further strengthen gun control in Canada. Justin Trudeau says Bill C-21 puts forward some of the strongest gun control measures in over 40 years.
They include implementing a national freeze on handguns, meaning no buying, selling, transferring or importing of handguns anywhere in Canada. Firearms licenses could be taken away from those involved in acts of domestic violence or criminal harassment, such as stalking. The Bill increases criminal penalties and includes more tools for law enforcement to fight smuggling and trafficking. And this legislation would also require long-gun magazines to be permanently altered, so they can never hold more than five rounds and the sale and transfer of large capacity magazines will be banned.
