The Saskatoon Police Service reports that two women are facing numerous charges after stealing a vehicle and evading police. Around 5 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the 1300 block of Idylwyld Drive about a vehicle stolen from a dealership salesperson at knife point while on a test drive.
The Air Support Unit quickly located the vehicle on Circle Drive, conveying its movements to officers on the ground. Because of heavy traffic slowing the driver of the stolen vehicle down, officers were able to intercept in the area of Preston Avenue and College Drive, where police say the vehicle crossed the raised centre median and sped off into oncoming traffic.
The police plane continued to monitor and observed it stop in the area of Arlington Avenue and 8th Street where officers on the ground re-engaged the vehicle. Police report the suspects rammed two police vehicles, immobilizing both, in an unsuccessful attempt to flee. One officer sustained a non life threatening injury as a result.
The two women were taken into custody. A 24 year old Prince Albert woman and a 27 year old Saskatoon woman are facing numerous charges including assault, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest by running from police, committing an indictable offence while masked and driving a vehicle while being pursued by police.
