A jury Friday came up with 20 recommendations in the inquiry into the death of Samwel Uko.
The Abbotsford man was found deceased in Wascana Lake after he had sought help at the Regina General Hospital for mental health related issues and was forcibly removed by staff in May, 2020.
According to a forensic pathologist and the jury, Uko died by drowning. However, how he died was undetermined, meaning the jurors were not able to decide whether it was accidental or suicide.
Justin Nyee, Samwel’s uncle, said that he and the family feel relief and they agree with every single recommendation from the six jurors.
“I hope, this is just my hope, the hospital will take the recommendations seriously, so this will not happen again.”
