We often hear about the big donations when it comes to philanthropy, but the YMCA of Saskatoon wants to hear more about the every day gestures. Leading up to YMCA Peace Week which begins November 16th, the local community organization is looking for nominations of peacemakers, whether as a group or as an individual.
YMCA of Saskatoon spokesperson, Serena Dallas, explains that Peace Medal recipients should demonstrate the values of peace. That includes getting involved in community-building activities, having empathy for others, advocating for positive change, building community connections and capacity and inspiring others to help them gain the skill and tools to succeed.
As an example, a Peace Medal recipient last year was a squash player who organizes an annual fundraiser called Squash Hunger, where players donate to the Saskatoon Food Bank. The deadline for nominations is November 3rd. You can click here for a nomination form.
