Saskatchewan’s Kahkewistahaw First Nation posted on social media that they cleared out a house on the First Nation where it is believed the occupants were selling hard drugs.
KFN Chief and Council served an eviction notice to a band member who lived in a Kahkewistahaw First Nation owned unit. Assisted by Broadview RCMP, they removed three KFN members and five people who are not members of the First Nation.
They believed, in addition to selling crystal meth, the unit was also being used my many non-KFN members as a drug safe haven.
“Let it be clear, Kahkewistahaw leadership will not allow drug dealers to sell freely or allow our units to be used as a safe haven for non band members who are hiding from authorities. We will now ban the 5 non-KFN members from our community as they are no longer welcome on Kahkewistahaw First Nation. We have talked with the KFN band member who lived in the unit and we are ready to work with the member to get them back on a healthy path. Until that happens, they will not be allowed back in the unit. ”
— Councillor William, Councillor Iris, Councillor Cory, Councillor Mike and the good people of Kahkewistahaw First Nation, Chief Evan Taypotat
The First Nation leadership stressed that they will not let drug dealers and users “run roughshod over our people and homelands, no matter where they are from.”
