One of the longest-lasting measures of the pandemic in Saskatoon has finally come to an end.
On Monday, Saskatoon City Council voted in favour of axing the mandatory mask mandate for city buses.
Ward 3 City Councillor David Kirton pitched the motion to end the mandate which was seconded by Ward 4 Councillor Troy Davies.
Kirton told council when he drives by buses, that he’s not seeing 97 per cent of the riders wearing a face mask. He added that asking people to continue wearing masks on the bus was too big of a burden for transit drivers to continue enforcing.
Councillors Hilary Gough, Mairin Loewen and Sarina Gersher all voted against the motion.
Saskatoon Transit will still provide masks for those who wish to wear one.
