Rainfall amounts were quite varied during June in Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada released weather statistics for the sixth month of the year with the Meadow Lake area recording their second wettest June on record with 175 millimetres.
North Battleford was also quite wet having received over 100 millimetres on June 13th, a one day June rainfall record. Meteorologist Terri Lang says the rainfall totals in Saskatoon don’t quite accurately reflect the actual amount as the June 20th storm hit the east side harder than the airport.
That day the airport recorded one millimetre while places on the east side saw upwards of 75 millimetres two weeks ago.
She says rain gauges on the east side recorded much more rain for the month of June than the one at the airport which recorded 38 millimetres.
“For myself, I recorded for the month, and I’m on the east side, I recorded just under 100 millimetres for the month.”
Lang says southern Saskatchewan was a lot drier in June. Regina only had 13.1 millimetres compared to the average which is closed to 71 millimetres. She says they know there were other storms which moved across the city bringing rain but in terms of the official number that will be the third driest June on record in 137 years.
Yorkton, another city that received some strong storms, only received 60 millimetres of rain in June compared to their usual 80 millimetres but yet had a storm that caused flooding in the streets.
