The Saskatchewan RCMP have released a few more details about the dangerous person alert from a shooting incident in Langham on Friday. Because there was an emergency alert and a public search for 46 year old Justin Heimbecker of Langham, the RCMP have decided to confirm that it was his body that was found in a burned home.
A 38 year old man who was fatally shot was found outside one of the homes on that same street. His name is not being released, although RCMP say the two knew each other but were not related. RCMP Major Crimes continue to investigate this apparent homicide-suicide. No arrests were made on July 8th, and investigators aren’t searching for anyone else. The suspicious fire is being investigating by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Here are the details: Early Friday morning, Warman RCMP were told of a person uttering threats and while responding, officers were then alerted about a shooting outside a home on Kyle Street in Langham, and a house on fire on the same street. Because of the potential imminent risk to public safety, a dangerous person alert was issued at 7:40 in the morning to Langham and surrounding areas, including Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford. RCMP explain the alert was issued for a wider area because they weren’t sure where Heimbecker was and didn’t know if he had access to a vehicle. Because the house was burning and was inaccessible at the time, his whereabouts were unknown. After the fire was put out, officers were able to enter and around 11:40 a.m., a man was found dead inside and at noon the dangerous person alert was cancelled.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says, “Any time there is a loss of life, it is traumatic for the loned ones and communities of those who have lost their lives, as well as for first responders. Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by this tragedy.
A number of policing partners assisted in the initial response to this incident.
