All but the most northern section of the western half of the province is under an extreme heat warning. Environment Canada reports that the heat will continue through tomorrow, followed by a day of temperatures in the twenties and then back to 30 degrees or higher, depending on how far south or north you are.
It’s coming from a slow moving ridge of high pressure from the Northwest U.S., moving in to the western prairies. Environment Canada says the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
