That from Nathan Meyer, a producer at the University of Regina’s School of Journalism who worked on the investigative report into lead levels in Canada’s drinking water.
He says they conducted 3 of their own water tests, two of them in Regina and one in Moose Jaw. The results ended up exceeding the recommended federal guidelines by that substantial an amount
Meyer says their tests took place in February and March of this year. He adds they didn’t conduct any of their own tests in Saskatoon, although they were able to get data from the City through freedom of information legislation.
The investigation found that Saskatoon, Regina and Moose Jaw were among 11 communities across Canada where residents have been exposed to lead levels in their drinking water that exceeded federal guidelines. The recommended limit for lead in drinking water recommended by Health Canada is 0.10 micrograms per litre.
Meyer says the issue is certainly in predominantly older neighbourhoods but another important factor is that lead saudering was used until the 80’s and that is able to contribute to lead in your water as well.
