Somewhere between 35-hundred to 4,000 vehicles were checked by Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan over three days this week near Chamberlain.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says removing unsafe vehicles and those towing recreational items improperly were the focus, along with identifying drivers impaired by drugs and/or alcohol.
Cpl Ray Bouchad of the CTSS says, “We’re here to help make sure the roads that everyone travels on are safe, not ruin travel plans – which is why a great number of safety violations identified were easily rectified through driver education or adjustments to towing equipment. There were a number of drivers inexperienced in towing trailers or campers.”
From the checkstops, 85 vehicles were taken out of service for equipment regulations violations and four child car seats were given out through an SGI grant, after child car seat inspections were completed.
There were also 17 suspensions for cannabis use, one for cocaine use, four roadside drive suspensions for alcohol and eight suspended drivers were stopped.
Nineteen police officers from Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan units took part and were from Rosetown, Maidstone, Martensville, Lanigan, Meadow Lake, Melfort, Swift Current RCMP Detachments and Moose Jaw Police Service.
