Saskatoon’s Eastview neighbourhood is coming together this Tuesday for their second annual Walk Against Hate.
The walk began last year after Saskatoon’s Muhammad Kashif was seriously assaulted during an early morning attack in the community last June that is suspected to have been racially motivated.
One of the organizers, Michelle Lee-Klassen says this year’s event will feature an action component.
“So we’re going to have the community come together and walk to stand up against hate but this year, we’re going to add an action element where we’re going to create a giant sidewalk mural where we’re going to have community members create a pledge, standing up against hate that we can write in chalk on the sidewalk.”
She adds it was a group effort to get the message out about this year’s walk.
“This is a very hardworking, planning group that is very grassroots, but we printed off hundreds and hundreds of flyers, we had a small group of volunteers kind of help us hit the ground in delivering flyers to every house in Eastview, as well as emailing and sending out messages to different groups on social media.”
Everyone in Saskatoon is invited to attend the walk which will get underway at 6:30 in James Anderson Park Tuesday night rain or shine.
