After evacuating St. Thomas More College, the Memorial Union Building, Health Sciences building, Murray Library and Place Riel, at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Police say they found no threat to the public.
Around 4 p.m. on Monday, police were notified of a call that had been made regarding a device. In addition to the evacuation, traffic restrictions were put in place around the location.
There was an initial search by Patrol who were then joined by members of the Explosive Disposal Unit along with the Canine Unit. The Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Health Services were there as well, on standby.
A male at the scene was taken into custody and later released with no charges. A backpack was also identified as suspicious and examined by the EDU. Police say they determined the backpack didn’t contain anything that would be considered a threat to safety. The roads around the University reopened to traffic around 10 p.m. Monday night.
