The Battleford RCMP weekly report states that officers responded to 533 calls for service over the past week. Although the number of calls per day would vary, if averaged out, it would be around 76 calls per day. Of those calls, 27 were assaults, 10 break and enters and nine mental health investigations. Officers also charged two people with impaired driving, responded to 85 disturbance calls, six vehicle thefts and 21 other thefts.
Among the calls for service, RCMP responded to a robbery of a ten year old on July 16th, shortly before midnight. The boy was reported to be in the alley with his siblings when he was approached by two suspects. The boy was threatened to turn over his cell phone, and then police were told, one of them raised their bat and struck him in the leg, but he wasn’t injured.
In another investigation, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault early Monday morning in North Battleford. A suspect was identified and a 21 year old man was arrested the next day without incident. He is charged with sexual assault and is scheduled to appear in court in September.
