The City of Saskatoon is on the hook for repairs to the 108th Street overpass, to the tune of $850,000.
On February 4th the overpass was hit by an over-height vehicle which caused significant damage to the structure, the most severe of which was on the south girder.
A report going to today’s City Council meeting indicates that normally the city will try to recoup costs through the driver’s insurance but in this instance, a driver was never identified although the vehicle collision report was filed with the police.
The structure has been inspected and due to the extent of the damage, the eastbound curb lane on 108th Street directly above the impacted girder has been closed until the repairs can be completed. Currently eastbound through traffic and eastbound to northbound left turn traffic are sharing the same lane.
A request to take $850,000 out of the Bridge Major Repair Reserve to pay for the cost of fixing the overpass is before Saskatoon City Council with the meeting getting underway at 1 p.m..
