The NDP’s SaskPower Critic condemns the Sask Party government’s decision to approve a SaskPower rate increase of four per cent this fall and another four per cent next year. Aleana Young suggests that when the cost-of-living significantly on the rise, it’s not the time, because families, businesses and industries are struggling in an affordability crisis.
She says, “To announce an eight per cent increase to power bills on a summer day before the long weekend is a cowardly move from Scott Moe and his cabinet.” She adds the natural gas rates are set to increase by almost 17 per cent on August 1st. The province announced on Thursday that the SaskPower rate increase would mean a rise of about $5 per month for the average residential customer, as of September 1st, and an additional $5 on April 1st of next year.
