Starting today, Saskatoon residents will be able to request public transit service using the new Saskatoon Transit OnDemand app.
The app will allow residents to request public transit at designated stops. After being picked up, individuals will be taken to the nearest transit hub where they can then travel all around the city.
OnDemand will be fully integrated with the current fixed-route transit system. It will be available in the current Transit app and for the first time, riders can plan trips that combine Saskatoon’s OnDemand and fixed route services. It allows passengers to plan a trip to there destination in the transit app using a combination of the two services, then directly link to the Saskatoon OnDemand app to request their ride.
Interim Director of Saskatoon Transit, Tracey Davis says, “We want to provide people with as much flexibility as possible, especially in developing neighborhoods where full public transit options don’t yet exist. Our OnDemand Transit service is just the thing to meet this challenge head on.”
OnDemand will connect Rosewood, North Kensington and Blairmore to transit hubs. Trips can booked in real time, or up to two weeks before riding. Spots can also be reserved for wheelchairs and bikes. The service will be available Monday to Friday, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
