The Royal Canadian Air Force is investigating an incident involving the Snowbirds yesterday at Fort St. John airport.
It says a jet was damaged and a Snowbirds pilot escaped physical injury after an aircraft was able to land on the airfield shortly after take off.
Fort St. John International Air Show organizers issued a statement and described it as “an incident occurred at the North Peace Regional Airport, with a departing Snowbird aircraft going down on takeoff.”
The Snowbirds squadron flies CT-114 Tutor jets, which are nearly 60 years old. The RCAF says it doesn’t know how this will impact future performances scheduled for the Snowbirds.
The Snowbirds were leaving Fort St. John after a performance and were headed to the Penticton Peach Festival for a 6 p.m. show today over Okanagan Lake. The Snowbirds are based at CFB Moose Jaw.
