Environment Canada issued a tornado warning Thursday and now says that they have confirmed a tornado did touch down near Witchekan Lake and Big River First Nations.
The tornado was observed at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening and has been given a preliminary rating of EF0. At this time there are no reports of damage from the tornado. Environment Canada meteorologists are seeking pictures of the damage the tornado or damage it may have caused. In addition to the tornado there was golf ball size hail at Big River, Candle Lake was pelted with Toonie sized hail, dime sized hail was reported in Melfort and pea size northwest of Meadow Lake. There were also trees down in Anglin Lake, Murray Point and Emma Lake.
Wind gusts of 94 kilometres per hour were recorded in Coronach, 93 km/h in Milestone and Yellow Grass had a wind gust to 85 kilometres per hour.
The hotspot in Saskatchewan was also the hotspot in Canada Thursday. Coronach topped out at 38.6 degrees which is a new temperature record. The old record was 37.2 degrees set in 1964. New records were also set in Assiniboia were the mercury climbed to 37.7 degrees breaking the old record of 35 degrees in 1983. Lucky Lake’s temperature topped out at 36.7 degrees Thursday and the old record was 34.1 set in 1997. Rockglen also set a new record of 37.5 degrees beating the old record of 33.3 set in 1971.
