The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a fire in the laundry room of a three-storey, multi-residential building.
The fire alarm alerted residents and the call came in shortly after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. Fire crews saw black smoke coming from the laundry room when they entered the building. A trash can was on fire and it was put out about 10 minutes after the call came in.
The building was ventilated to remove the smoke and fire crews reset the fire alarm system. The Fire Investigator identified a lighter which was seized and taken as evidence by the Saskatoon Police Service. The damage is estimated at $4,000.
A few hours later, at 6:26 p.m. Friday night, the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a call involving a single vehicle accident where a vehicle had rolled onto its roof on Idylwyld Drive at the Lorne Avenue exit.
When firefighters arrived the driver inside was suspended from their seatbelt. Firefighters stabilized the car to make sure it wouldn’t move, cut the seatbelt and gently let them down so they could crawl out through a rear driver side window. The patient’s care was then handed over to Medavie Ambulance Service.
