The provincial NDP is continuing to put the pressure on the Saskatchewan government when it comes to the allegations of abuse at Saskatoon’s Christian Centre Academy.
Some media outlets have reported that least 30 former students have come forward with allegations of abuse since the story broke a week ago.
The provincial NDP says Education Minister Dustin Duncan stated in a written address that he is waiting on the criminal investigation to conclude before addressing concerns surrounding the Saskatoon school.
Education critic, Matt Love says with Duncan leaving the matter to the criminal justice system, it means he is setting the bar for quality education pretty low.
“The stories are becoming more recent and more troubling and it can not be down played how serious these allegations are. We’re talking about the safety and education of students in Saskatchewan schools and yet Minister Duncan is M.I.A. Not a word of compassion for the brave individuals who have stepped forward.”
The NDP is asking Minister Duncan why he hasn’t offered any solutions yet, if he takes any responsibility as the education minister to address the allegations and why independent schools are not subject to the same access to information and transparency mechanisms as public and separate schools.
The official opposition also renewed their call to freeze funding to the Saskatoon school until such investigations have concluded.
Christian Centre Academy now operates as the Legacy Christian Academy.
