A provincial committee will be struck to establish a framework on class size and composition for Prekindergarten to Grade 12 classroom. Education Minister Gordon Wyant has released terms of reference to education sector partners, and the first meeting will be held before the end of the month.
The committee will include parents, academics, professional staff, members of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association and the Ministry of Education.
The goal is to have a framework on class size and composition to be implemented for the 2020-21 school year.
There have been many calls for changes as the province’s population grows. Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation President, Patrick Maze has explained in the past that class composition means the varying needs of students, for instance mental health issues, and those whose first language is not English.
