Tootsie Baby Water-Filled Teethers and Teether Keys are being recalled because of microbial contamination.The teethers, which come in semi transparent colours of red, aqua and blue, are filled with liquid. Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, teether fillings must not contain any living micro-organisms. Health Canada has sampled the liquid filling and found it contaminated with the bacteria which generally do not cause illness in healthy individuals. However, the bacteria can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea, if the teether is punctured and the liquid filling is ingested.  Caregivers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled teethers and throw it out.
