Saskatoon’s Police Chief says the continually dropping price of crystal meth is concerning. Troy Copper has heard about the extremely low prices available in other communities but says they haven’t reached Saskatoon. Copper feels even at between 5-and-10 dollars a dose in the city, the drug remains very attractive to addicts who he terms as “marginalized”. The Chief stresses the psychosis produced by crystal meth use makes users very difficult to deal with for police and puts a strain on the health care system. Police estimate the price has dropped by about 70-percent in the last few years with a dose going for as low as 3-dollars. Police say it’s a matter of supply and demand as an oversupply has been caused by the ease of making the drug. Drug unit seizures of crystal meth used to be in ounces. Police say they are now confiscating kilograms at a time in the city and surrounding rural areas.
