Flags at Saskatchewan’s legislature and other provincial government buildings have been lowered and will remain at half mast, one day, for each life lost in the stabbing spree that took place Sunday in Saskatchewan. The suspects, Damien and Myles Sanderson, remain at large.
The Government of Saskatchewan says it has activated Provincial Command, deployed victim services to the communities and area impacted and added additional staffing resources. They have bolstered other law enforcement resources with 16 staff from the Provincial Protective Services who work on things like highway patrol, sheriffs and community safety officers.
There will also continue to be an increased security presence at area hospitals.
The Prime Minister said in a statement that he is shocked and and devastated by the horrific attacks.
“As Canadians, we mourn with everyone affected by this tragic violence, and with the people of Saskatchewan. We also wish a full and quick recovery to those injured.”
And the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations has extended its sympathy to the families, relatives and communities of the victims whose lives were taken during what the FSIN refers to as “senseless acts of violence.”
The FSIN points the finger at illegal drugs for the violent rampage and says authorities need to take direction from the Chiefs and Councils and their membership to create safer and healthier communities.
