The Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club handed over a cheque today (Tues) to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools for $20,000 to enhance Indigenous performing arts at the new St. Frances Cree Bilingual School when it opens in two years.
The Rotary Club has promised $100,000 over five years for the programming, which Board Chair for the School Division, Dianne Boyko says will be used to highlight Indigenous language and culture for youth.
Nutana Rotary past-president, Mike Garmiak, says the club has taken a lot of time and effort to educate themselves on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Actions, and the club wanted to make a tangible difference.
He says, “Our hope is that our contribution will help bring together the school community and the community at large”.
