The Saskatchewan Health Authority hasn’t indicated what caused the problem but say the precautionary drinking water advisory at St. Paul’s Hospital is over. The hospital, it’s patients, staff and visitors have the all clear to use tap water for drinking and other purposes. Brown discoloured water started coming out of the taps at St. Pauls’ hospital in Saskatoon on Wednesday afternoon.
During the course of trying to figure out where the issue was stemming from, the City of Saskatoon inspected water mains around St. Paul’s Hospital found no issues outside of the hospital in the City water system. That included a check of water from nearby homes.
The SHA says water discolouration was resolved by flushing the lines in the system. As well, a series of water quality tests have shown normal results.
Over the almost 4 days the hospital had to deal with the discoloured water there was no tap water or ice formed with tap water consumed or used in medical procedures, emergency water supplies including bottled water were distributed to all units and departments and water trucks were provided.
As well, sterilization of medical equipment was conducted at other sites within Saskatoon.
