The incidents leading up to a dangerous person alert being issued on September 5th actually got underway on the Friday three days earlier. Spiritwood RCMP say their officers were called to a report of shots fired that Friday morning where a man in one vehicle was shooting at the driver of another vehicle.
Later that same day, on September 2nd, a vehicle fled from police and the two inside abandoned it and took off into the bush. A 31 year old man was arrested in connection to that incident. Move the calendar ahead to September 5th at approximately 7:30 a.m. when RCMP took a report of a black SUV having been stolen and two hours later they received another report that indicated those in a black SUV had stolen gas from a business in Leoville.
There was also a report of a person in a black SUV shooting a gun at a resident in the neighbourhood. No one was hurt and that is when a dangerous person alert was issued.
A black SUV was found speeding in a corn field but eventually caught fire and came to a stop. After all that, the driver at the time, it was determined, wasn’t involved in the initial report of shootings.
On September 6th, the Dangerous person alert was cancelled and on September 7th three people from Witchekan Lake First Nation were charged including 31-year-old Dallas Sakebow, 22-year-old Kelly Witchekan and 32-year-old Shane Witchekan.
Thirty-three year old Melvin Starblanket, who had been wanted in connection to this investigation, was located by police on September 7th, and the investigation continues. Anyone with information on the shooting on September 5th is asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
31-year-old Dallas Sakebow of Witchekan Lake First Nation, is charged with:
– Theft of truck, contrary to Sec. 333(1) of the Criminal Code; and
– Breaking, entering, and committing – residence, contrary to Section 348(1)(b);
22-year-old Kelly Witchekan of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with 11 offences, some of which include:
– Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, contrary to Sec. 95(2) of the Criminal Code;
– Carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, contrary to Sec. 88(2) of the Criminal Code; and
– Using a firearm while committing assault with a weapon, contrary to Sec. 85(3) of the Criminal Code.
32-year-old Shane Witchekan of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with 12 offences, some of which include:
– Robbery with a firearm, contrary to Sec. 344 of the Criminal Code;
– Careless use of a firearm, contrary to Sec. 86(1) of the Criminal Code; and
– Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, contrary to Sec. 95(2) of the Criminal Code.
