The Board Chair of a new organization in Saskatchewan says some statistics on the financial situations of Canadians and residents of this province are alarming.

Janet Uchacz-Hart of the Saskatchewan Literacy Network points to the fact half of Saskatchewan residents are barely able to pay their bills at the end of each month and they are among the 44-percent of Canadians 200-dollars or less away from bankruptcy on a monthly basis.

She says the network is very supportive and has assisted in developing new provincial curriculum offering personal finance courses for grade 11 and 12 students in Saskatchewan and feels that type of course would be valuable for students in grades seven, eight and nine.

The Saskatchewan Literacy Network also has information on budgeting, credit and mortgages on its website while offering a data base of experts as well as a list of activities throughout the year.
