The Saskatoon Fire Department is hosting a series of open houses at a handful of their fire stations over the next two weeks.
Today (wed) will see the first open house take place which will be held at Fire Station No. 1 on Idylwyld Drive.
Assistant Chief Yvonne Raymer says one of the open houses will be at the old fire station number three on the corner of York Avenue and Taylor Street.
“We were sort of running out of space for fire inspectors and the fire crews. When the fire crew moved over to the new three station, old three sort of ended up housing our fire investigation unit, so when you come into Fire Prevention Station and actually see where the fire investigators put their gear, where the vehicles are kind of situated, all the equipment that’s inside that vehicle.”
The open houses are in support of this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.” This year’s Fire Prevention Week runs from October 9th through the 15th. It also happens to be the 110th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week.
Each open house will include an obstacle course for kids, presentations by the fire crew and fire swag.
The open houses will start today (wed) at Fire Station No. 1 on Idylwyld Drive while the Fire Prevention Station will be on display on Tuesday the 20th. Both open houses start at 6:30 p.m.
