A 27 year old man has been arrested in Prince George, British Columbia and is charged with first degree murder in connection to the Saskatoon Police Service investigation of Megan Gallagher, who has been missing for two years. Police began treating Megan’s disappearance as a homicide in January of 2021.
Her father, Brian Gallagher, says it’s prophetic that this happened two years to the day that she has been missing. He can’t describe his feelings when he was told the news, saying although it brings them closer to knowing what happened. “None of this will ever bring Megan home. It’ll never bring Megan back. We’ll never hug Megan again. We will never laugh with Megan again. We will never see her pretty smile again, and as she promised me on Father’s Day, we will never play catch again.”
Staff Sergeant Grant Obst is in charge of Major Crime for the Police Service. He says five members of Saskatoon were in B.C. for the arrest of Robert James Thomas, known as Bobby Thomas. Obst can’t point to one specific thing that led to Thomas’ arrest. He notes there have been months and months of investigating and it took being able to fit a few pieces of the puzzle together to bring them to this point. He adds that Thomas has ties to Saskatoon.
Deputy Chief Randy Huisman emphasizes the investigation is far from over. There will be a search for Megan Gallagher in an area of the South Saskatchewan River, with details coming later, and more arrests could be coming as well.
Robert James Thomas, also known as Bobby Thomas is being transported by RCMP to Saskatoon and he is expected to appear in court later this week. Four others were arrested in the last few months, charged with indignity to human remains. They are John Wayne Sanderson, Ernest Whitehead, Roderick William Sutherland and Jessica Sutherland. Huisman urges anyone with information about this investigation to contact the police.
