SGI says, “When drivers weren’t focusing on the road, police were focusing on them.” The Traffic Safety Spotlight from SGI and police across the province for August included 768 distracted driving tickets. From that, 646 tickets were for drivers using a mobile device while behind the wheel and 122 tickets for driving without due care and attention.
SGI spokesperson, Jeremy Pilon, says distracted driving is one of the top contributors to injuries and death on Saskatchewan roads. The August spotlight also included 488 impaired driving offences, and 4,454 tickets for speeding and aggressive driving. SGI reminds drivers that as of Saturday, tough new penalties for stunting and street drag racing begin.
