DEEP Earth Energy Production Corporation is currently working on drilling a second well near Torquay in the southeastern part of the province. That’s because the Saskatchewan company is in the works of building Canada’s first geo-thermal power plant. President and CEO, Kirsten Marcia says they completed their production well earlier this year and now they’re in the process of drilling their injection well. “We’re drilling from the same surface location and we’re actually drilling a directional well so that the tow of this new well will be 1.5 kilometres away from the tow of the first well.” Marcia says with the second well, they’ll be able to complete them as a production well and an injection well, so that the fluids have enough time to migrate through the rocks and heat up before it gets back to the production well. Marcia adds after the second well is complete, they’ll do a 60 day flow test to see what the flow rates are and to determine the total number of wells that will be created. The plan is to start construction on the power plant next year.
